For the love of storytime
As an artist and illustrator, Johanna is a visual storyteller.
Johanna has written and illustrated two children’s books: The Day I Went Fishing on Lake Wanapitei, (won an award from the Sudbury Design Society for Illustration in 2012); and Fire in the Forest (won an award from the SDS for Illustration in 2014). Both books have been sold across Canada and internationally.
The Day I Went Fishing on Lake Wanapitei
The Day I Went Fishing on Lake Wanapitei is a fully illustrated children’s story about a man who catches all the fish in Lake Wanapitei. It is set in Northern Ontario (on Lake Wanapitei, north of Sudbury), and features vibrant and exciting full colour illustrations, rhyming verse, and an important lesson which teaches children about fishing conservation.
Fire in the Forest
Fire in the Forest is a fully illustrated children’s story about a family camping in Northern Ontario, and the danger and damage a forest fire can do if a campfire is not properly doused. This book is set in Northern Ontario, featuring rich and dynamic full colour illustrations (including a legend describing fire fighting tools and terms), rhyming verse, and an important lesson which teaches children about fire conservation and prevention.
Sudbury Women in Art
Johanna worked with Chantal Abdel-Nour (Graphic Designer, Illustrator) to create Sudbury Women in Art. It is a book which raises awareness of talented and innovative women who create visual art in Sudbury. The book showcases women who have made a significant contribution in the visual arts community, and promotes equality in representation, and enhances opportunities for women as creators. This was a philanthropic project to benefit the community.
